Carl McKever discusses the basic network devices (hubs, bridges, switches, and routers) and common network standards and protocols. He mentions 65,535 network ports in the industry, but only discusses the common 5 network ports:

1. FTP - File Transfer Protocol - port 21

2. HTTP - Hypertext Transfer Protocol - port 80

3. SMTP - Simple Mail Transfer Protocol - port 25

4. TCP - Transmission Control Protocol - port 445

5. IP - Internet Protocol
